We will update this page with things that are going on in the community that our office is involved in.
Kentucky Highway Safety Grant Awards
The annual Kentucky Highway Safety Grant Awards Ceremony was held in December at the Griffin Gate Hotel in Lexington, KY. Johnson County Sheriff’s Deputy Darvin Marsillett was honored with 2 awards for Outstanding Achievement in the Apprehension of Impaired Drivers. Deputy Marsillett wrote the most DUI citations for the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, and the most for the Commonwealth of Kentucky Division 1. In 2011, Deputy Marsillett arrested 108 individuals for driving under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol.
As part of the Highway Safety Grant, the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office was awarded 3 Preliminary Breath Tests (PBTs), by Grant Director Bob Criswell. PBTs detect alcohol present in the breath of an individual. The PBTs will be used by sheriff’s deputies in the identification and arrest of drunk drivers.
The sheriff’s office was also awarded a mobile radar trailer (shown below), which detects the speed of oncoming vehicles. This trailer can be set up next to roadway, given there is enough room, and displays the speed of passing vehicles. The mobile radar will be used to help increase the safety of county roads and neighborhoods. Sheriff Price encourages anyone in the community who is having issues with vehicles exceeding the speed limit to call and request the trailer be brought to your community. You may contact the Sheriff’s Office at 789-3411.
